Pricing and Quotes
Four of the most common questions about cost, answered plainly:
Call (07) 3067 4271How is the price for a blocked drain worked out?
The plumber finds the cause first, then quotes a fixed upfront price covering the whole job before any work starts. Access, pipe depth and what caused the blockage all shape the figure, and nothing proceeds until you agree.
Do you charge by the hour?
No. The price is settled for the whole job before anyone starts, so a job that runs longer than expected does not add to the bill. That applies to clearing, camera work and repairs alike.
What if the blockage turns out worse than expected?
If the camera shows a cracked or collapsed pipe rather than a simple choke, the plumber explains the options and gives a fresh price for the repair. You decide before anything extra happens.
When do I pay for the work?
Payment happens once the job is finished and tested, and you can pay by card or EFTPOS on the day. There is no deposit to arrange before the plumber arrives.
How quickly can someone look at a blocked drain?
Ring in the morning and we can usually make it the same day. We never promise a time, because a storm afternoon or a long relining job can change the run, but same-day where we can is the aim.
What should I have ready when I call?
Know which fixtures are slow, gurgling or overflowing, and whether the trouble started suddenly or built up over weeks. If you have noticed gully trouble after rain or roots found in a past clear, mention that too.
Do I need to be home for the whole visit?
For the first visit, yes, ideally. The plumber needs access to the yard, the gully and the fixtures to trace the line and agree the price with you before starting.
What should I do while waiting for the plumber?
Stop using the affected fixtures, especially the washing machine and toilet, and keep everyone clear of anything overflowing. If every drain in the house is slow at once, hold off flushing altogether.
Which drains can be cleared without digging?
Most chokes clear from the gully or an access point using the electric eel or jet blasting, so digging stays off the table unless the pipe itself is broken. A camera confirms which case you have.
Is jet blasting safe for old earthenware pipes?
Yes, when the nozzle and pressure suit the pipe. The short earthenware lengths under the older houses here have many joints, so the operator works to the line's condition rather than at maximum force.
What does a CCTV inspection actually show?
The camera shows where the choke sits, whether roots have entered a joint, and whether the pipe is cracked, sagging or still sound. That decides between another clean and a repair or relining.
Can any pipe be relined?
Not every one. Relining suits pipes that are cracked or root-affected but still holding their shape, while a collapsed section usually needs digging and replacing. The camera footage settles which option fits your line.
Why do the older houses here block more often?
The interwar Queenslanders sit on large allotments, so their drains run a long way across the yard in earthenware, and mature garden trees send roots straight at those old joints. Both factors stack the odds.
Who owns the sewer main in Wooloowin?
Your house drain is your responsibility up to the connection with the Urban Utilities main, which the utility maintains. If a choke sits out in that main, Urban Utilities handles it rather than us.
Does summer storm run-off affect the drains here?
It can. The soils set hard and shed rain across driveways and yards, so a heavy cell loads the kerb pits and gully traps quickly, and stormwater lines carrying silt choke more easily.
